Trinidad & St Vincent descendent and been a true hiphop fan forever. My older sister Brenda got me into electro giving me my first taste of it way back in 1980 or something like that. I used to listen to her tapes when she didn't take her set to college with her. Then I discovered shows like Mike Allen on Capital Radio and tuned in without fail, taping as much as possible, classic songs such as King T`s, Payback`s a Mutha, Duke Booty Broadway spring to mind, hiphop was my best friend thru all those times.
Around 94` I felt the production bug after a few previous trips to New York to see my sister who`s husband was an MC from Queens. He introduced me to his main man Tom Hill aka Krush who produced for Onyx and a few other crews from Queens. At Toms studio at the classic, but now burnout 1212 studios in Queens, I came across the MPC60 and was instantly hooked, I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing, whole songs coming out of one box, I was stunned. Tom had got hold of the Marley Marl Funkdelic Relic instrumental and it just blew my mind, from that day in I think 92` I was hooked....Plus I also met Jam Master Jay (RIP) in that studio too, so I will definately never forget that period of my life. Kinda freaky but alot of MC`s that I have met in my life have passed away....kinda scary....Biggie, Freaky Tah(Lost Boyz), JMJ, Poetic (Gravediggaz)...to name a few...real wierd!!! Thats when I decided to get my own shit after a few failed attempts to work with other people, I managed to buy myself an MPC2000 and never looked back. To this day I still have that machine and will never get rid of it, but now I work on the MPC 4000 and plan to collect the whole series of MPC`s from the original MPC60 if I can find one, thru to the latest MPC2500!!! Thats me...... this year (2006) I am planning to produce a hiphop LP featuring guest MC`s, so if you think your nice on the mic device hit me up... Tris aka Ol`English aka Trzarector |
